Heaven On Earth With An Onion Slice

Occasionally in the work world, I get to attend meetings, seminars, conferences, sessions, etc. I like going to these things every now and then as they can be quite informative and you always get to meet new people. Sometimes you even get goodies to take home as well like free pens, paper, books, bags, posters, and the likes.

However, if there's one feature that keeps these events rolling, it's eating. Oh. The. Food. It's always in abundance and with a variety for an assortment of tastes. Each meeting is unique depending on location, time of day, length of event and some are better than others. But always enjoyable. And the fare is always flowing, as there is usually something at each break.

Let's take the meeting I attended yesterday. Morning break we were given a variety of muffins, cinammon rolls, biscuts and apple turnovers, plus tea/coffere/juices/water. Yum. Then lunch about an hour later which was fish chowder or, if that doesn't suit your fancy, chicken vegetable soup. Plus rolls, a variety of wraps, and a variety of desserts to pick and choose from. Oh my.

Oh wait. There's more. Afternoon break was veggie trays and fruit trays with dips and many more dessert options. Nanaimo bars, rocky road squares, coconut squares, just to name a few. Shortly after that, the meeting ended and between the end of the meeting and the banquet was the reception featuring ... mussels. More available than 75 people in the room could eat. Whoa I say. Whoa.

Here comes dinner. Roast turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, carrots, turnip, coleslaw, cranberry sauce, rolls and for dessert - your choice: carrot cake or double chocolate cake.

It was good. Deliciousness all around. But my poor tummy! By the middle of the day it could take no more and I think it was mad at me. I never eat that much food in a day nor that often. But it's free, and it's good, and it's there! For a limited time. It's like a one-day-only shoe sale, you damn well buy all the cheap shoes you can. Any rational person would do the same.

The key to remember people is to ration it out, just a little at a time so you can enjoy it all and get a taste of everything! That's my advice. So while the business world might not make me rich, it might unfortunately make me fat.
